Balloons, Flowers and Puppets. OH MY! An Eclectic and Playful Color Filled Wedding at the historic Dynasty Typewriter Theater and Carondelet House

We have been blessed with the most unique and fun clients over the years. No two weddings have ever been the same and our clients always come to us with some sort of outside of the box wackadoo idea. Mel & Dave might have been the wackadoo-est of all! They had bold colors, balloons everywhere, custom sequin wedding ensembles, and puppets (yep. puppets) galore!

Sparkle Suits and Colorful Pastel Florals for the Bride and Groom

When your couple dons custom sequin suits instead of the usual black and white looks it can be a trick to coordinate and complement their outfits using florals. Mel’s light blue iridescent bridal jumpsuit was a challenge and a delight to consider when designing her bouquet. We opted for a juicy but pastel palette of peach, tangerine, lavender, and soft but bright green for her bouquet. Something to stand out against the sparkles without taking over her whole look. For Dave’s sequined suit of emerald and sapphire we decided to stick to some of the cooler tones in the palette. His boutonniere featured tiny aster blooms, pale green fritillaria,  just a pop of pink Jasmine buds and an elegant knot of deep blue velvet ribbon.

A Ceremony in an Historic Theater Complete with a Marquee and Some Unexpected Ushers.

Welcomed by a marquee stating “Mel & Dave: The wedding! For one night only” guests arrived at the ceremony location, the historic Dynasty Typewriter theater and were greeted by champagne, popcorn and a cast of Bob Barker’s Marionettes as Hurray for Hollywood rang out in the background. The old theater is used to hosting comedy and music acts, so a wedding ceremony there was truly a once in a lifetime experience for the stage.

The Red Velvet Curtains Part Revealing a Wild and Wonderful Ceremony Scene

As the red velvet curtains parted, Mel & Dave’s ceremony altar was revealed. A chuppah adorned in a rainbow of blooms along with a wild and undulating installation of balloons. The vintage clamshell lighting at the front of the stage lit a wild and colorful meadow of florals that we later repurposed in front of the band during reception.

A Second Line Parade led by Marionette Puppets Brings the Wedding Party to the Reception at Carondelet House.

After the ceremony a New Orleans style brass band, joined by all of the puppets, led the guests in a parade around the corner to the reception at Carondelet House. At Carondelet there was ANOTHER band waiting at the dance floor. Overhead were balloons and multicolored lights while the flowers from the ceremony outlined the edge of the band’s performance area. Completing the party atmosphere, Mel & Dave put on their matching light up dancing sneakers and took to the dance floor. To say it was an unforgettable night would be an understatement!
